In late 2023, CodeYourFuture (CYF) faced a harsh reality. The job market for junior developers had shrunk dramatically. By early 2024, things hadn’t improved. Despite our track record of training developers to high standards, we had to act.
We made the tough choice to delay classes. And we didn’t stop there. We completely redesigned our program. We tapped into the expertise of our amazing community of developers and other professionals. We looked at what the market needed now. We took into account everything we’d learned over the past 7+ years.
The result is a new vocational program, designed for the current tech market.
Each part of the CYF program aims to make someone job-ready. From our Intro to Digital course to the Software Development track, every step has value. CYF graduates will be ready for a broader range of roles in the tech industry.
Our courses have improved, why we do it remains the same.
The new CYF is significantly different, but our core mission has stayed the same. We still aim to help people from low-income backgrounds, those with refugee status and others who face learning barriers to change their lives through tech careers. We know it’s going to be more challenging in this job market. We believe our new program is up to the task.
Our new curriculum is designed to create more pathways to employment. From tech support to site reliability engineering, we’re preparing people for where the jobs are now.
Applicants don’t need tech experience to start with CYF. Many of our most successful graduates had never written a line of code before they started with us.
Support is still key to success.
Our commitment to running a community-led programme has remained strong. Tech and other professionals will continue providing incredible one-on-one support that helps trainees succeed. This community of professionals guides our students from the moment they sign up until they land that first job – and beyond. Many of our volunteers are returning CYF alumni.
For those in our program looking for work, we’re doubling down on support. We’re helping them improve their skills through real-world projects and helping them improve their portfolios. We’re preparing them for interviews and training them in additional coding languages.
We’re excited about the future. We need your help to make it happen.
